PUTTING FINISH OVER THE CHECKERING

I will always return your stock with the bare wood showing in the checkered areas.

Sometimes this really stands out and is a bit shocking at first to look at. Please remember that your checkering will take on a whole new look once you add some finish and it will also cover up any small imperfections in the wood.

Some folks prefer to add a bit of stain first, others like  to just add one coat of finish (a toothbrush works best for this project) while still others prefer to add several coats of finish, it seems to darken it up a bit that way also.

Just make sure that you do NOT fill in the checkering with finish or it will be useless and you'll have to send it back for a re-cut.
